If you’re worried about your frames clashing with the rest of your outfit, you really can’t go wrong with black, which typically works well with all skin tones. Have a cool skin tone? Try a pair of silver-tone metal frames, or if you’re feeling adventurous, a bold color with cooler undertones, like turquoise. If you have a warm skin tone, consider firing up your style with a pair of warm, gold-tone metal frames or a pair of rustic red acrylic frames. The underlying tones of your skin can help you to narrow down your choices. Women’s and men’s square prescription glasses alike will leave you with a seemingly endless stream of options to choose from. Square frame glasses leave plenty of room for expressing your individuality with color, pattern, and material selection. The Perfect Frame Color and Material for Your Square Prescription Glasses Two of the best shapes are oval and rectangular. If this is your shape, you have a lot of styles to choose from. The main being that the diamond shape features less width at the top of the head, with the cheeks being the widest point. If this is your face shape, you’ll have no problems rocking rectangular frames or other styles that sharper angles.ĭiamond-shaped faces are sometimes difficult to distinguish from heart-shaped faces, but there are some key differences. If you have a heart-shaped face, your chin will be pointed and your forehead will be the widest point of your face - think an upside-down triangle. This face shape works particularly well with “oversized” frames with round curves, such as browline frames. Rectangular faces are shaped similarly to oval faces, but with less curve and sharper angles around the jaw and length of the face. Those with this face shape typically have no trouble finding the right frame shape, as they have both strong and soft angles to work with which makes maintaining balance easy. Oval faces are wider around the forehead than they are at the chin (which is curved) while being longer than they are wide. Square prescription glasses add an element of balance to the curving along the length of the face. Square prescription glasses for round face shapes are an excellent choice. Those with round faces have similar proportions to those with square faces, with the difference being that the sides of their faces curve outward rather than sitting straight. While those with this face shape can pull off square frames, their faces pair particularly well with round and cat-eye frames. Generally speaking, those with square faces have angled jawlines with the width of their faces being about the same as the length. It’s not something that people do a whole lot of thinking about until the time comes to pick out glasses. Unsure of what your face shape actually is? You’re not alone there either! Square Prescription Glasses Frames for Different Face ShapesĬhoosing the right frame shape for your face might seem intimidating, but by taking a few key points into account, you’ll be heading in the right direction in no time.

The new Adobe Denoise engine made its debut not just in Lightroom Classic v12.3, but also in Lightroom CC v6.3 and Photoshop's Camera Raw v15.3, providing vastly more capable denoising to subscribers of any of these three apps. We must confess to having been more than a little surprised by just how long Adobe allowed that situation to continue, but last month it finally offered a rebuttal, bringing its noise processing back from the prehistoric era. DxO's PRIME engine debuted a decade ago with Optics Pro 9, and Topaz Denoise has been around even longer. While it tends to beat its rivals in terms of camera support, processing performance and in the sheer breadth of tools and adjustments on offer, when it comes to noise reduction processing Adobe was long ago bested by alternatives like DxO's PRIME / DeepPRIME and Topaz Labs' Denoise AI engines.Īnd when we say 'long ago,' that's no exaggeration. Throughout its 16-year existence, Adobe's Photoshop Lightroom has impressed us in many ways, but there's one area in which it has trailed the competition to a frustrating degree. Adobe Denoise made its debut for Camera Raw, Lightroom CC and Lightroom Classic in the company's April 2023 update, as shown here in the What's New dialog from Lightroom CC. Courts have long recognized that appeal waivers do not prevent a defendant from appealing a sentence that would result in a miscarriage of justice, such as a sentence imposed in violation of the law. The district court's statement in this case is not such a "broad assurance." Rather, its statement about Soto-Cruz's appeal rights was limited to the appeal of a sentence that Soto-Cruz thought was in violation of the law or was unreasonable. Soto-Cruz was able to perpetuate the scheme for nearly thirteen years, through the Dean Witter/Morgan Stanley merger, and even while working under several different supervisors. He then funneled his clients' investments through fictitious corporate accounts that he opened and controlled and into high-risk investments, keeping the profits of the risky investments for himself. He advised at least ten different individual and institutional clients to invest in low-risk securities, including mortgage-backed securities issued by the Government National Mortgage Association (GNMA). However, his seasoned growl of a voice does the heavy lifting for us, telling us everything we need to know about the chief target of The Bride’s obsessive quest. I’ll elaborate more on Carradine’s portrayal of Bill in my analysis of VOLUME 2, as he is only heard, and never seen during the entirety of VOLUME 1. It’s one of Thurman’s most high-profile performances, and easily one of her best. She courageously stares down every challenge and continually summons up vast wells of strength to overcome them. Fortunately, Thurman imbues The Bride character with unfathomable complexity and grit. With revenge tales, it’s easy for the protagonist to become so focused in their vendetta that they become one-note and cease being multi-dimensional. This is Thurman’s show, through and through, and she soaks up every ounce of energy in the scene, channeling it into an aggressive performance. Tarantino’s cast is first-rate, turning in performances that are at once both over-the-top and sincere. Along the way, she coaxes the legendary Hattori Hanzo (Sonny Chiba) into constructing a new samurai sword for her, and encounters a masked Yakuza gang called the Crazy 88’s. Fox) and Yakuza boss O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu). KILL BILL: VOLUME 1 sets up the Bride’s quest, travelling as far as Japan as she pursues the first two ex-Viper Squad names on her Death List: Pasadena homemaker Vernita Green (Vivica A. When she comes out of her coma, she immediately sets to work planning the execution of each and every person involved. The KILL BILL saga tells the blood-soaked tale of The Bride (Thurman), who lost her baby and four years of her life when she was attacked and left for dead on her wedding day by her old boss and lover, Bill (David Carradine) and his gang of elite killers, the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. His producing partners-Lawrence Bender, Bob Weinstein, and Harvey Weinstein-successfully argued for the film to get released in two parts. Rather indulgently, Tarantino added new scenes to the script as he shot-a testament to the unfettered, unadulterated giddiness with which he approached the project-only to find himself in the editing room with a film that ran a (bladder-annihilating) four hours. KILL BILL: VOLUME 2 (2004) was released only six months later, but Tarantino had initially conceived the idea as one epic revenge tale spanning vast swaths of time and space. What began as excited chattering and brainstorming between Tarantino and actress Uma Thurman during the production of PULP FICTIONslowly grew over the years to become a gargantuan celebration of cinema’s various forms and a legitimate pop cultural phenomenon unto itself. Tarantino’s grand return to cinema after 1997’s JACKIE BROWN, KILL BILL: VOLUME 1 was almost ten years in the making. I hadn’t yet gone to film school, so I had yet to learn about Andrew Sarris’ auteur theory, but I intuitively understood the sentiment because of Tarantino. After leaving the theatre, I immediately (okay, maybe it was a week or two later) went out and bought PULP FICTION (1994) and RESERVOIR DOGS(1992) on DVD so I could check out his other work-the first time I had ever done so as for a given director. However, KILL BILL: VOLUME 1 was the first Tarantino film I ever saw, and I was riveted for its duration. I had heard of Tarantino prior to this, by virtue of being a casual participant in cinematic pop culture. Read Quentin’s Screenplay for This Film Here The year was 2003, and I had just entered my senior year of high school.īy that time, I was of age to see R-rated films in theatres without any kind of hassle or sneaky spy shit-but my friends were not. And that is how on a cold winter night in Portland, my younger brother and best friend were stuck in another auditorium watching a stale biopic on the religious reformer Martin Luther, while I was alone in another auditorium gleefully taking in the literal bloodbath that was KILL BILL: VOLUME 1. The 4 th film by Quentin Tarantino (as it reads in the film’s advertising copy), KILL BILL: VOLUME 1, was released during an odd time in my cinematic development. Hans Wilhelm Klee was active as a music teacher at the Bern State Seminary in Hofwil near Bern until 1931. Q: When you reopened, did COVID-19 change your operations?Ī: When we opened back up in May, we did not give guests the opportunity to feed the animals. But we’ve been very, very busy, blessed that one of our biggest marketing tools is word-of-mouth and repeat customers. You did not know if next week everything was going to be good - would you then have a COVID resurgence and you would have to close again? And so you just start to tighten your belt a little bit. You knew that everything was OK right then, but you had no idea what tomorrow was going to hold. Q: Did you increase your marketing budget to let people know you were operating?Ī: We actually decreased our marketing because of the unknown. And it forced families to stop and reassess life and be able to enjoy each other, and we are blessed to be part of that. We had gotten so busy that families weren’t ever sitting down to dinner. But there have been some good aspects about COVID. Obviously, the loss of life is just devastating. There’s been a lot of negative with COVID. We don’t release attendance numbers, but on some days we doubled the number of cars. Visitation has been better than normal for us. We could operate and give people that experience. When we opened back up, we were just very blessed that we could offer that COVID-19-safe environment where people were not exposed to other people. Luckily, we had a cushion so we could afford to feed the animals. How has the wildlife ranch fared in terms of visitors?Ī: We were closed when everyone else was closed. Q: The COVID-19 pandemic has devastated the tourism industry in San Antonio. The following transcript has been edited for clarity and length. Soechting recently talked with the Express-News about the ranch and how the pandemic has affected - and changed - the business. She’s involved in every aspect of the operation. She met Shawn at Canyon High School in New Braunfels.Īfter graduating from Texas Tech University with a degree in animal science, Soechting started working at the ranch full time. Tiffany Soechting got involved as a 15-year-old in 1985, working a summer job in the gift shop and snack bar, and making ticket sales. The animals number 700, with 40 species representing every continent except Antarctica.Ī winding, 4.5-mile road lets visitors drive past the animals at their own pace and even repeat the safari journey if they want. “The driving force was their love for the land, the agricultural way of life, and allowing people to see animals roam free that they had only seen in a zoolike setting,” Tiffany said.Īnimals in the 450-plus-acre compound include giraffes, zebras, cranes, ostriches, lemurs, gibbons peacocks and white rhinoceroses. The experience is rooted in Trudy and Raymond’s desire to allow visitors to see animals on their property in a natural setting and appreciate the beauty of the ranch with its rolling hills, creek beds and live oaks. It’s decidedly low-key in keeping with the philosophy of the Soechting family. On entering the ranch, visitors are given a guidebook featuring the animals they are about to see. Sure, there’s a restaurant and a gift shop filled with stuffed animals and other souvenirs, but you don’t have to enter them to get to the walk-through animal area, which features a large enclosure for giraffes. Visitors might be surprised once they enter the roadside attraction. |
